In honour of National Chip Week

Did you support last week’s “National Chip Week”? Printed Space staff certainly gave it a good go, with even the fitness fanatics amongst us surrendering to the Northern delicacy of Chips ‘n Gravy! (I wont name drop who added fish scraps to their order, but if you telephone our office she will most likely be the one who answers your call!!).

We decided to look back on the wallpaper and flooring installations we have done recently in the Chippy industry, and show you our favourites……

Petrou Bros, Cambridge

Famous for their fish and chips in Cambridgeshire, brothers Mark and Pete Petrou wanted something out of the ordinary in their latest restaurant. Their brief to Printed Space was to create an interior that would transport their customers to an iconic seaside resort, where people can create their own little islands of nostalgia, and escape from the crowds and traffic outside.

We used Floorink - our printable vinyl cushion flooring, and Crystal - our premium laminated wallpaper, to create a real environment for customers to relax in, and enjoy their meal.  The fishing boat wall mural portrays a traditional Norfolk fishing village, complete with small boats, nets, warehouses and a fish market. On closer inspection, Mark and Pete can be seen peeking out of one of the boat's portholes!

On the opposite wall - and sweeping down  and across the floor underfoot - is the beach. Our design team created a fusion of images you would  associate with a vibrant British seaside resort; a pier, seagulls, deckchairs, chips in newspaper, beach huts, a fairground.... the idea being that customers have lots to discover when stood in the queue.
As Floorink is fully customisable, it was the perfect choice for the shop's floor. Rather than having to settle for a standard pebble effect lino, we were able to seamlessly continue the wall mural design down from the printed wallpaper and print it across the floor, incorporating beach towels, flip flops, the odd beer can to add to the atmosphere, and little waves under the large windows that open out onto the street so you can feel the "sea breeze" whilst you're paddling!

Tarnbrook Chippy, Heysham

Our local customers in Lancashire may have spotted this mural we installed in a Heysham Fish and Chip shop. John Wild, new owner of Tarnbrook Chippy, loves the paintings produced by Lancaster artist Chas Jacobs. They really capture the local coastline and the bright colours are fantastic. He had seen a few similar murals around the Morecambe area so approached us to see if we could provide one that would be suitable for a kitchen environment, on a wipeable wallpaper finish.

We reproduced one of Chas Jacobs iconic images, printing onto a laminated vinyl that will withstand oil and food splashes, and that is durable enough when customers lean against it. The mural gives a beautiful backdrop to the shop and really makes it stand out from the local competition.

Pop in to have a look next time you are in the area - and remember to treat yourself to one of John's famous Cumberland sausages!!
The Fisherman's Wife, York
York's new Fish and Chip shop was fitted with some lip smacking photographs printed onto our laminated wallpaper, to create these eye catching  displays in the windows to entice customers in. A fishing village landscape wall mural was installed on the main wall to set the scene and the floor was transformed with a printed sandy beach and surf. Here's Zoe from our design team who created the bespoke floor artwork, testing out the finished print before we installed it. The quality of the print makes the sand look very realistic and creates a lovely welcoming atmosphere for customers.

We are really looking forward to seeing what wonderful ideas the Fish and Chip shop industry come up with throughout the coming year to make their Chippy's stand out from the rest using our printed interior products. I quite fancy doing an underwater themed restaurant with the seabed printed on the floor with coral and starfish, and the walls printed with a scuba diver's 360 degree view under the ocean. Deep in the Amazon

We recently completed this eye catching printed floor, installed at Rainforest Adventure Golf's Canopy Cafe in Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland.

The Architects and interior designers, John Duffy Design Group, created digital imagery of a rainforest floor complete with oversized insects, butterflies, tree frogs and snakes. This was then scaled to fit the floor space and printed onto Floorink, our commercial grade vinyl cushion flooring. The floor is incredibly vibrant and fun, with lots of different rainforest creatures for visitors to discover - even in the toilet cubicles.

Floorink was used in the Cafe and Retail areas and makes a huge impact on customers entering the facility prior to playing the course, as well as groups gathering to use the Cafe area afterwards.  Floorink was chosen as the client needed a product that was visually graphic and could be easily customised, however it had to withstand the high volume of foot traffic with visitors to the facility.

Floorink is the perfect flooring solution for heavily themed interiors like this one - the bespoke nature of our product means that any look can be achieved for a one off project.

Bird's Eye View

Bristol's new flagship museum, M Shed, has been hailed as one of the UK's most innovative and ambitious museum developments. Dedicated to telling the amazing history of the city of Bristol through the objects and stories of the people who have made the city what it is today.
The ground floor "Bristol Places" gallery focuses on the physical and dynamic city - the ways that people have shaped and experienced the city and continue to do so. The gallery features a huge 150sqm area of Floorink; our digitally printed vinyl cushion floor product. Famous landmarks in the area were pinpointed on a large scale aerial photograph to create an interactive visitor attraction. As you can see from the photographs, the printed map floor is a great focal point and gets visitors of all ages talking about their local area. It is a fun and colourful flooring solution for public spaces, yet also an educational tool with great impact.

Have a look at photographer Oliver Edward's blog for a 360 virtual tour of the museum floor. http://oliveredwardsphotography.com/virtualtours/downstairs.swf
M Shed has been nominated and short-listed for the most prestigious museum award in Europe, and deservedly so. The coveted "European Museum of the Year Award 2012" stands for innovation, public quality and professional excellence in museums. The winner will be announced as part of the EMF 2012 Assembly in Penafiel, Portugal, from 16 to 19 May 2012.

"Located on the historic dockside, Bristol's flagship museum has been designed to retain the unique character of the former 1950s transit shed. Three galleries reveal the fascinating story of the city and its unique place in the world. From prehistoric times to the present day, explore the history of Bristol through the objects and stories of the people who made the city what it is today. Educational Flooring

The Transformational Learning Hub at the new River View Primary School in Salford, Manchester, features our colourful A-Z map Floorink. Covering all 220sqm of floor space, the A-Z map creates a fun yet practical flooring solution - not only does it provide a dramatic feature to the space, it is also an effective learning tool for the children.

River View was designed by Urban Vision and constructed by Laing O'Rourke as part of the New Broughton regeneration scheme. The school has been designed to promote a positive learning environment for all, and the A-Z street map printed for the large Learning Hub on the first floor certainly inspires the children when learning about their local area.

We visited the school shortly after it opened for the new Autumn Term, and the children enthusiastically showed us how they use the floor space during their lessons. They have had so much fun finding their street on the map and working out where friends and family live. The teachers were also very impressed with the impact the floor creates. The roads and streets are large scale so the children can actually walk local routes on the map.

Vintage Style

Clitheroe's new tearoom and boutique "Callooh! Callay!" uses Floorink as a spectacular focal point which enhances it's vintage ambience.

A historical map of the local area was scaled to fit the tearoom's floor plan, and then printed onto our vinyl cushion floor product. Floorink is perfect for a cafe or restaurant environment as it is a very hardwearing floor and very easy to clean. The roll width of 4m also meant that the map could be produced and fitted as one sheet of printed flooring.

Floorink has given this outlet a completely unique floor and creates as instant talking point with the customers. Owner Rebecca Lambert says that customers always try to find their homes and schools on the vintage map floor, and reminisce on how the town used to look.

Callooh! Callay! combines this fabulous vintage map flooring with upside down teacup and teapot lighting, Alice in Wonderland themed flamingo wallpaper and Mad Hatter Tea Party-esque crockery to create a colourful and quirky atmosphere.

I cant wait to go and have a look around the shop, and enjoy a nice cup of tea!

In their own words :
"A quirky little tearoom in the heart of Clitheroe, combining all things vintage with a contemporary twist. Unwind with one of our specially blended teas, devour a delicious homemade cake and then take time to browse our beautiful jewellery, cards and fancy goods
...or indulge yourself with the ultimate British afternoon tea!"

Liverpool Makeover with Custom Made Wallpaper

Here at Printed Space, we are quite used to being asked to reproduce weird and wonderful photographs onto our printed wallpaper – however: when our artwork team opened up the package from make-up artist Kate Donnelly even they were a little surprised. Could we recreate a wallpaper using her favourite dress that was carefully wrapped up in the parcel?!
Never one to say “No”, our artwork team set about scanning, and photographing the dress, then used Photoshop to recreate a repeat pattern.
Our installation team went to the new salon on Liverpool’s Dale Street to measure the interior space to ensure the new design was the correct size and scale.

The resulting wallpaper really adds to the lively atmosphere inside the new salon : Peaches and Cream. We also printed a forest mural with a splash of shocking pink for the reception and seating area, and a bespoke wallpaper using their own artwork.

Peaches and Cream specialize in Bridal make up, Bridal hair and creative makeovers for all ages and occasions. Sharon from our sales team took along her daughter Leila who was given this amazing butterfly themed hair and face paint makeover!

Visit Peaches and Cream for further details on their make up services.

Travel the World with Printed Space

Our World Map mural was used recently in this inspiring photoshoot for Ideal Home. Printed Space was featured in their Travel the World article, for which the wallpaper created an impressive backdrop.
There is something about looking at a world map that I find addictive. We are surrounded with them here at Printed Space, in the form of wall murals, canvas prints and printed flooring - either on screen having artwork tweaks; on our printers; spread across the quality control room or being packaged up for shipping to customers around the world - so its a good job we admire the maps so much! We have been producing the world map wallpaper and other map products for over 5 years now, and I never tire of perusing the countries and oceans, often slipping into a daydream of future travels :)

Our World Map printed wallpapers are available in different styles and colours. The map featured here is our Executive World Map (copyright Maps International) and is available to buy online here
All our maps can be produced to fit any size wall, floor or window space, alternatively, set sizes are available to buy from our website.

Street Map Style

Did any of you spot the Street Map wallpaper we printed for the BBC One series 'DIY SOS: The Big Build' to help transform the home of a family in Dartford. You can still watch it here for the next 5 days :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b013938w/DIY_SOS_The_Big_Build_Dartford/

The son is Autistic, and the design team thought that this A-Z map of his local area would be a great feature in his room so he could visualize where his mum was when she was out at work by following the roads, and also he could see where his school, and other family members and friends lived.

We converted the standard A-Z map colours to a more subtle blue and pale green colour scheme to suit the interior decor more.

We then printed it onto our very durable Classic textured wallpaper, ideal for children's playrooms and bedrooms.

We can print your area of the UK using A-Z mapping, to fit any size wall. Map murals create a perfect feature wall for any room in your home, but street map wallpaper is also extremely popular for schools, offices, estate and letting agents for example. We can convert the colours to match your current decor too.

You can see more examples of our map wallpapers here :
